Advocates for the change include: Planned Parenthood and the ACLU of Missouri claim that the measure would overturn the state’s current abortion law, banning the procedure from the moment of conception except in medical emergencies.

But opponents say the change is so vague that it opens the door to a range of abuses, including allowing transgender surgeries on children.

“This is a huge train heading toward Missouri,” Thomas More Society attorney Mary Catherine Martin told Fox News Digital.

Holding a copy of the amendment text, Martin said the measure is much longer than other abortion amendments evaluated across the country.

Another opponent of the amendment, Cassidy Anderson, who leads a political action committee called “Vote No on 3,” told Fox News Digital that the amendment could easily be changed because it does not define “reproductive health services” or set an age limit. It is used as a legal justification for gender reassignment surgeries in children.

“You would think that with an initiative advertised as a women’s health initiative … you would say the word ‘woman’ somewhere on the ballot,” she said. “It never says the word woman, it refers to people. It doesn’t define age. It doesn’t define gender. It doesn’t define anything.”

Anderson’s group has allocated nearly $3 million to encourage Missourians to reject the amendment. The No vote on 3 received another $1.7 million by the end of October. But they face an uphill battle, he said, with the other side receiving nearly $75 million from outside organizations. George Soros And Michael Bloomberg.

“What does Michael Bloomberg have to do with Missouri politics? But that’s what we’re facing,” he said.

Thanks to this outside funding, Anderson said supporters of the amendment were able to outperform his group four to one in terms of ad buying.

Even so, he said polls on the issue show a “really close split.”

Some prominent Republicans in the state include Gov. Mike Parson and Senator Josh HawleyHe also stated that they were against the change.

“Amendment 3 goes well beyond abortion; it would constitutionally protect transgender surgeries on minors without parental consent,” Hawley told Fox News Digital.

“This is beyond extreme. It’s also wrong for Missouri,” Hawley said.
