Winter Haven Police searching for driver accused of hitting deputies three times

Police are searching for the person who allegedly crashed into a deputy’s car while stopped at a red light on Saturday night.

The Winter Haven Police Department said the hit-and-run suspect driver, described as a white man, rear-ended a sheriff’s deputy on Cypress Gardens Boulevard around 9:40 p.m. and 9th St. in SE Winter Paradise.

A woman was also identified in the passenger seat of the car, but deputies said they could not see the driver clearly due to the tinted windows of the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

After striking the sheriff’s deputy the first time, the man crashed into the police cruiser two more times as he attempted to travel eastbound on Cypress Gardens Boulevard, according to the police department.

Deputies say they found the car with front-end crash damage outside the woman’s home in Lake Dexter. They said he admitted to being in the car at the time of the accident, but they still could not identify the driver.

No other information was given about the woman. Deputies say the investigation is ongoing and ask anyone with information about the crash or the driver to contact the Winter Haven Police Department at 863-401-2256.
