Bhayandar police arrested a 30-year-old man on charges of assaulting his mother with a knife and causing grievous hurt. The attack is said to have been caused by a property dispute. According to police, the incident was reported from Shastri Nagar area of ​​Bhayandar (west) around 2 pm on Friday.

The woman, identified as Kamla Chandubhai Dantanai (52), is left alone after her husband’s death in 2021 and sells flowers near a temple to earn a living. He has two sons and a daughter; They are all married and living separately. In her complaint to the police, Kamla stated that after her husband’s death, she inherited a flat belonging to her in Dahisar’s Shanti Nagar area. The cluster of slums is now under redevelopment for the construction of a 25-storey tower, for which an apartment is allocated for rent. His younger son Sanjay (30), living in Rawalpada area of ​​Dahisar, was demanding documents of the property.

A few hours after having a heated argument with his mother over the matter near the temple where he was selling flowers, Sanjay burst into his mother’s house in the afternoon and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing. He also threatened to kill his brothers if he did not transfer the property to his name.

Kamla, who was stabbed in the head, hands, shoulders and chest and was covered in blood, was taken to a nearby hospital and her condition was stated to be stable. Meanwhile, the police immediately arrested Sanjay and booked him for attempt to commit murder under Section 109(1) and criminal intimidation of Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) under Section 351(2). Further investigations were ongoing.
