Prabowo Asks Ministers and Subordinates Not to Travel Abroad Frequently

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto He asks ministers and their subordinates not to hold excessive seminars and to avoid working visits abroad. The President also reminds his subordinates not to engage in excessive ‘leisure activities’ and to take more action.

This was conveyed by Prabowo during a speech at the declaration event of the National Solidarity Movement (GSN) at the Gelora Bung Karno Complex, Indonesia Arena in Central Jakarta on September 2, 2024.

“Coincidentally, many ministers were there. I also ask your members to avoid traveling abroad too much. If you want to travel abroad, you can use your own money,” Prabowo said.

Initially, Prabowo discussed the state budget to be used for free nutritious meal programs. However, he stated that it has become difficult for millions of children who do not have uniforms to go to school.

Prabowo then asked his subordinates to cut back on budget-wasting seminars, business trips or overseas comparison trips. “What kind of studies are you going to do? You already know what the problem is, don’t do too much research.”

Prabowo admitted that it was really difficult to prevent his subordinates from traveling abroad. Because he experienced this firsthand when his members in Gerindra asked for permission to go abroad. Prabowo recalled that a few years ago, five members of the Gerindra group in one area asked for permission to travel abroad. Prabowo subsequently did not allow his party’s legislative staff to travel abroad.

These five members of the regional legislature were recently elected from a district on one of the islands in the eastern region. They begged Prabowo, saying they had never been abroad in their lives.

“Oh, the president’s heart softened. He said, ‘We have this opportunity, sir, there is a plan for all council members to do benchmarking in Hong Kong,'” Prabowo said. “Finally I said, ‘okay, this is the last time.’ And they left.”

Prabowo stated that the most important thing right now is not to travel abroad. He said that the focus of the authorities should be on solving the problems of the people.

“So please convince all our subordinates to reduce travel abroad,” Prabowo said.
