Sergent-to-Reed connection leads San Diego to 40-13 rout of Davidson

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Grant Sergent threw three touchdown passes, including two to Ja’seem Reed, and San Diego rallied for 30 points in the second quarter to beat Davidson 40-13 on Saturday.

Sergent threw for 307 yards on 19-of-27 passing, while Reed caught 14 passes for 186 yards. The two-touchdown haul brought his Pioneer Football League-leading total to eight this season. Logan Gingg added 106 yards with one touchdown pass for San Diego (5-3, 3-2).

The Toreros had four field goals and a field goal in the second quarter; this was highlighted by Jerry Riggins’ fumble return for a 73-yard touchdown pass and Sergent’s three touchdown passes.

While the Toreros were leading 37-13 at halftime, Aidan Lehman’s 46-yard field goal in the 12th minute of the fourth quarter was the only score of the second half.

Davidson (5-4, 3-3) got a 9-yard touchdown run from Sam Valor in the first quarter and a 32-yard field goal from Luke Durkin in the second quarter.

Davidson, led by Valor with 77 yards, rushed for 228 yards but passed for only 36 yards.
