Police say mother deliberately crossed Niagara Falls with her two children

NIAGARA FALLS, NY (WBNG/Gray News) – Search and rescue efforts for a mother and her two children passing through Niagara Falls were unsuccessful, according to the police.

New York State Police say 33-year-old Chaianti Means climbed over a safety railing and intentionally drove over Niagara Falls with her children, 9-year-old Roman Rossman and 5-month-old Mecca Means.

All three were reportedly from the town of Niagara Falls.

Around 9 p.m. on Oct. 28, three people were reported to have crossed over the railroad tracks on Luna Island, a small island between American Falls and Bridal Falls, police said.

Police determined that the incident was “intentional”. However, police noted that the situation was under investigation.

As of Wednesday, search and rescue efforts were unsuccessful and Means and the children are believed to be dead.

There is no threat to public safety.

NYS Park Police Unmanned Aircraft Systems, NYSPP Marine Patrol, NYSP Aviation, Underwater Rescue Unit, Niagara Falls Police Department and Niagara Charter Schools are assisting the State Police in the investigation.
