SAN ANTONIO — A Bexar County jury sentenced a man Thursday to two life sentences for attempted capital murder and aggravated assault following the 2020 shooting of a police officer.

Antoine Foster was convicted in 186th District Court of two counts of attempted capital murder of a peace officer and two counts of aggravated assault on a public servant.

According to the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, on July 17, 2020, two San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) officers responded to a domestic violence call at a North Side apartment complex involving Foster.

When officers arrived to investigate the situation, Foster began shooting at them. He fired 17 times with a pistol and 5 times with a shotgun. Officers returned fire and were able to subdue him.

After the sentencing, as Foster was being sent to jail, he jumped out of his wheelchair and ran for several blocks before being caught. He now faces an additional charge for the escape.

Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said in a press release:
