Arkansas QB exits Ole Miss game

Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green briefly exited the first quarter of Saturday’s game against Ole Miss after suffering an apparent lower-body injury but was able to return in the second quarter.

Green needed help getting to his feet after being tackled awkwardly following a 14-yard rushing attempt and was carefully walked to the team’s sideline for further evaluation.

Although the point guard was able to return at the beginning of the second quarter, the injury initially looked more concerning for the player.

Green’s left leg got caught under a Rebels defender and was twisted on the play in question during the tackle, and he did not return to the play during the possession.

He was seen trying to test his leg on some runs while on the Razorbacks’ sideline, but he still appeared to walk cautiously and requested further evaluation from coaches.

“Not very good,” ESPN sideline reporter Quint Kessenich made the blunt assessment of Green while observing him during track drills.

Arkansas trailed Ole Miss 7-0 with 5:28 left in the opening quarter when Green was injured and Green passed for 38 yards and ran 4 times for 23 yards.

But the Razorbacks took a 7-3 lead on Matthew Shipley’s 55-yard field goal, and the Rebels took a 14-3 lead on Jaxson Dart’s touchdown pass to Dae’Quan Wright.

Arkansas replaced Green with Malachi Singleton at the quarterback position, but he was unable to get the offense going any further before punting to the Rebels.

Singleton ran for the go-ahead touchdown for the Razorbacks and the team’s signature upset victory over then-No. 4 Tennessee, also on October 5, when Green was injured.

The freshman is a 71.4 percent passer this season and has hit 10 of 14 passes for 151 yards, with much of that production coming in the Razorbacks’ season opener against Pine Bluff.
