Pokémon TCG Pocket bundle change leaves a bad taste after big launch

Pokémon TCG Pocket After launching in New Zealand last month, it finally arrived on iPhone and Android this week; This delighted fans of the series around the world. However, after attending last month’s partial launch, I noticed a big change to the in-game store and I wasn’t impressed.

For those who don’t know, the currency for purchasing new packs in Pokémon TCG Pocket is primarily pack hourglasses. During the soft launch, you can get a six-pack of hourglasses for the price of a 12 store ticket – yes, I know this is going in a very mathematical direction, but stick with me. Now, after going global, hourglass six-packs cost 18 store tickets, adding a whopping 50% to the original asking price and making it even harder to track down some of our most successful brands. Looks like I’m not the only one noticing the change. The second hottest post from Pokémon TCG Pocket at the time of this writing reddit Someone complains about the change, calling it a “huge long-term dampener on card purchasing.” Honestly, I couldn’t have put it better, and while it’s not uncommon for a mobile game to make these kinds of changes to push users to spend money on in-game resources, it’s still disappointing.

This wouldn’t be such a problem if the in-game store wasn’t already a bit annoying, limiting the number of hourglass packs you can buy per month using store tickets to 70. This is equivalent to just five packages. There are ten hourglasses to spare each month. Sure, you get two packs for free each day, three if you’re a premium user, but considering there are over 200 cards to collect from the first three sets, this still makes getting cards pretty slow. Simply put, collecting them all will be no mean feat.

Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that the change to the Pokémon TCG Pocket store will revert to what it was during the soft launch, so we’ll just have to get used to spending more resources on pack hourglasses.
