Aholou’s wonder strike gave Angers a 1-0 win at high-flying Monaco

MONACO — Jean-Eudes Aholou’s superb first-half strike gave Angers a 1-0 win over Monaco in Ligue 1 on Friday, cementing the northwestern club’s recent rejuvenation.

After an 11-match winless streak since July, Angers have won two in a row for the first time since May.

Friday’s win moved them into 14th place in the 18-team league.

Monaco’s story is almost a mirror image of Angers’ rise. The principality’s club suffered two consecutive defeats after a 12-match unbeaten streak from the beginning of August to the end of October.

There were not many regulars in the match, which ended with Aholou’s wonderful strike in the 29th minute.

The Ivory Coast forward received a short pass from Jim Allevinah and gave goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki no chance with his left-foot shot.
