LSP says Westbank cyclist dies after colliding with lorry

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WVUE) – Louisiana State Police say a Westbank cyclist died after colliding with a truck near an intersection south of Marrero on Thursday evening, Oct. 31.

The crash occurred at the intersection of LA 45 (Barataria Boulevard) and Eighty Arpent Road.

Troopers said the cyclist was traveling south along the right fog line of Barataria Boulevard around 5:30 p.m. when he was struck by a Ford F-250 driven by 34-year-old Mark Sicuro.

LSP said Sicuro did not yield to the cyclist and as he passed, the truck’s tires hit the driver, throwing him off the bike.

The driver, who was seriously injured in the accident, died at the scene. His identity was not disclosed.

Sicuro, who was not injured, was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on charges of negligent homicide, improper passing of a cyclist and illegal discoloration of his windshield.
