Voters likely see Trump and Harris nearly tied in poll in Georgia and North Carolina

Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris They’re neck-and-neck in vital battleground states like Georgia and North Carolina, according to two new CNN polls conducted by SSRS.

In Georgia, Trump is trailing Harris among likely voters, 48% to 47%, while in North Carolina the results are reversed, with Harris leading 48% to Trump’s 47%. The results are within the margin of error in both cases.

Trump won North Carolina twice, by nearly four percentage points in 2016 and just over one point in 2020. The only Democrat to win North Carolina in the last 20 years is former President Barack Obama, and that was by less than half a point in 2008. The Tar Heel state has 16 votes in the electoral college.

While Trump held a rally in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, on Wednesday afternoon, Harris made her defense in Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina, underlining how important this state will be in deciding who will be the next president. Trump’s running mate Senator J.D. VanceR-Ohio is in North Carolina today for a “Generation Z Town Hall.”

CNN/SSRS North Carolina poll a Fox News poll It showed Trump with a 49 percent to 47 percent lead among likely voters, while third-party candidates received 4 percent of the vote. Fox News’ survey of North Carolina voters, published in September, also showed that Trump was only slightly preferred among voters, while Harris was narrowly preferred among registered voters.

Meanwhile, a poll conducted last week by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the University of Georgia I found Trump with 47 percent support in the state compared to Harris’ 43%. The Peach state also has 16 electoral college votes.

President Biden narrowly edged Trump in Georgia in 2020, becoming the first Democrat to carry the state in the race for the White House in nearly 30 years since former President Bill Clinton in 1992.

CNN/SSRS polls released Thursday found that an overwhelming 95% of likely voters in each state say they have now made up their minds about their vote, with more than half of likely voters in both Georgia (59%) and North Carolina. (52%) say they have already cast their votes.

According to CNN/SSRS polls, Harris has a seven-point lead among those who have already voted in Georgia and a six-point lead in North Carolina.

Nearly two-thirds of Harris supporters in both states say they voted mostly to support Harris rather than oppose Trump.

Vast majorities of Trump voters in both states (81 percent in Georgia and 75 percent in North Carolina) say their vote was primarily about support for the former president rather than opposition to Harris.

In North Carolina, Trump is ahead by seven points among men and Harris is ahead by nine points among women. In Georgia, men support Trump at the same rate, but women are closer to an even split (49% Harris, 47% Trump).

Harris leads by significant margins among Black voters in both states; 84% to 13% in Georgia and 78% to 19% in North Carolina. The vice president also leads among college-educated voters, 55% to 39% in Georgia and 53% to 42% in North Carolina, according to CNN/SSRS polls.

White college graduates are about evenly split in both states; 48% for Trump in Georgia, compared to 50% for Harris, 47% for Trump in North Carolina, and 46% for Harris. Trump leads among white voters without a college degree in Georgia by an 81 percent to 15 percent margin. In North Carolina, he leads this group by a less overwhelming margin of 65% to 31%.

Polls were conducted online and by phone from October 23 to October 28 with 732 voters in Georgia and 750 voters in North Carolina. The margin of error among likely voters in both states is 4.7%.
