FA Cup first round: EFL sides in danger of upset

Burton Albion are yet to win a single game in League One and sit bottom of the table, seven points clear of safety.

The Brewers are coming off eight straight defeats in all competitions and their only win so far this season came against Leicester City’s Under-21s in the EFL Trophy on August 20.

Two months and 11 games have passed since then and Scarborough Athletic will certainly smell blood when they arrive at the Pirelli Stadium, despite being three leagues behind.

Burton have a recent history of losing to lower league opponents, losing 1-0 away to Barnet, who sit two places below the National League, in the first round of the 2020-21 season. They were also eliminated by League Two Grimsby Town in the third round in 2023.

Meanwhile, the National League North visitors have won five of their last eight games in all competitions.

Led by former Manchester United, Middlesbrough and West Brom player Jonathan Greening, the Seadogs will believe they can bring further misery to the managerless Yellow and Black Army.
