WILLINGBORO, N.J. (WPVI) — A mother and her daughter were shot and killed by an intruder at their home in Willingboro, New Jersey, the Burlington County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.

Police were called to a home on Harrington Circle just after 4 a.m. Wednesday morning on a report of a burglary in progress.

When officers arrived, they found the bodies of Catherine Nunez, 33, and her mother, Marisol Nunez, 54, in an upstairs bedroom.

Both had gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Willingboro residents living on Harrington Circle are still trying to process the traumatic event that unfolded in their peaceful community.

“This neighborhood is normally quiet, but it was even quieter. A pin drops and you hear it because everyone is in shock when they find out it happened,” Royston Evans said.

“It’s sad. Especially sad in Willingboro. We don’t have this kind of thing on our street,” Charlee Harris added.

Investigators believe the intruder or intruders entered the home through a first-floor window and fled before police arrived.

Neighbors said a child was in the house at the time of the attack.

“He has a son. He was riding his bike and playing outside,” Harris recalled.

Glenda Sprauve lives next door to the Nunez family. He says they moved from Brooklyn, New York, a few years ago and he communicates with Catherine frequently.

“He was such a good person… I couldn’t even sleep last night,” he said.

No arrests were made.

Investigators do not believe this was a random incident and do not pose a current danger to the community.

Neighbors plan to hold a prayer vigil Friday night in honor of the family.
