60,000 Wawa branded cups with metal straws recalled due to risk of tearing

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Approximately 60,000 Wawa branded drinking glasses are being recalled due to the risk of tearing posed by the products’ metal straws.

The commission urges consumers to immediately stop using metal straws and contact the cups’ distributor, Illinois-based Halo Branding Solutions, for a silicone replacement. If a customer also wants to return the cup, they can receive a $15 refund in the form of a gift card.

Affected consumers should not attempt to return the cups to Wawa stores, according to Thursday’s announcement. You can find more information on how to participate on Halo’s website.

The recalled cups were sold exclusively at Wawa stores in Alabama, Washington, DC, Delaware, Florida, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland in August of this year. The 24-ounce drinkware came in four different styles.

Pennsylvania-based Wawa stated in its statement that it had not recalled the Halo cups in its stores since mid-August and noted that 5,433 units were sold.
