Former RTÉ reporter David Davin-Power dies aged 72 – The Irish Times

Former broadcaster and political reporter David Davin-Power He died at the age of 72.

The Dublin-born broadcaster hosted RTÉ Radio’s Morning Ireland program and served as Northern Ireland editor.

Former RTÉ News Six One presenter Bryan Dobson praised Mr Davin-Power’s ability to make complex stories “instantly understandable” and focus on “what really matters”.

Taoiseach Simon Harris paid tribute to him as “a trusted figure who was welcomed into homes across the country throughout his long career”.

“He was one of the first presenters of Morning Ireland, a successful Northern Editor for RTÉ at a pivotal moment in history, a political correspondent who knew the Dáil inside and out and, in recent years, a witty and insightful columnist.

“David was always a consummate professional, a conscientious journalist and a gentleman.

“He was a storyteller who was generous with his time, an interesting person who cared about other people, and was kind to those around him.”

He is survived by his wife Dearbhla, five children and extended family. – P.A.
