Brush fire burns 41 acres in Evesham Town, smoke expected to persist

EVESHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ — Firefighters with the Evesham Fire Department and New Jersey Forest Fire Service (NJFFS) are battling a deep brush fire Wednesday afternoon off Sycamore Boulevard in southern Evesham County, near the Camden County border. According to local officials, the fire has already affected approximately 41 acres.

The fire, which broke out in the early afternoon, sent smoke into the southern part of the county, prompting officials to warn residents that the smell of smoke may linger until heavy rains help extinguish remaining hot spots. Fire crews continue their work to control the fire and prevent it from spreading further.

As of Wednesday, Evesham Township and NJFFS fire crews remain on scene, focusing on containment efforts due to the fire’s challenging location and size. There is no information yet on what may have caused the fire.

Officials are urging residents of south Evesham to exercise caution and be aware of potential smoke which could affect air quality in the area. No evacuation orders were issued and no injuries or damage to structures were reported.

Residents are advised to follow updates from local authorities and avoid the affected area while firefighting operations continue.
