Mother Received a Message from Kindergarten Teacher When She Found a Condom in Her Pocket (Exclusive)

  • Crystal Starnes was surprised when she received a text from her son’s kindergarten teacher informing her that she had found a condom in the little boy’s pocket.
  • Starnes has an idea how it might have gotten there, but he knows it didn’t come from his house
  • The mom shared the entire story on TikTok and it instantly went viral, garnering some hilarious comments from other parents and teachers.

Every day of parenting is an adventure.

Crystal Starnes is on TikTok @bayan.starnes22She was shocked when she received a text from her 5-year-old son Hudson’s teacher about an unusual discovery in the little boy’s pocket.

Sharing the texts on TikTok, Starnes shows the teacher writing: “Good morning! First of all, Hudson is NOT in trouble with this hahaha! He came up to me before recess and pulled this out of his pocket and asked what it was. I didn’t tell him what it was, I was just going to dispose of it and I’ll let you know we discovered it!”

This was followed by a picture of a single, non-latex condom produced by the 5-year-old. My mom says that while most people probably think this is something they find at home, that’s not the case here.

“My husband and I have been together for 7 years. Hudson turns 6 next month, and I had my tubes tied when he was a baby, so we’ve never needed condoms in our home. When his teacher said he found one in his pocket, it was so shocking,” she tells PEOPLE.

“I was surprised and thought it was hilarious,” the mother admits.

Starnes later learned that his son’s teacher had been asking questions about where he found him, with Hudson explaining: “I put my hand in my pocket and there he was.”

As for how it got there, Starnes thought about it and realized: “We bought these jeans at Walmart about a week ago. I took the tags off this morning. I think someone might have been wandering around playing a prank on someone.” Putting one in there is really all we can think of.”

Starnes shared the funny story on Facebook, and a friend encouraged her to share it on TikTok because, “This is worth going viral.”

The funny thing, too, for Starnes and her husband, was that Hudson didn’t even think to broach the subject at home that evening. A few days later they asked him about it.

“We were talking and he was standing in our bedroom and he put his hands in his pockets. He said: ‘I put my hand in my pocket and I felt something there. I took it out and this was it.’ ”

(“I think it was a glow stick,” Hudson tells PEOPLE, referring to the extra glow sticks parents sometimes bring home for their kids from the nightclub they run.)

Starnes knew it was a funny mix-up, but he didn’t expect such a strong reaction online. “An hour after I posted this, I logged in and it already had 50,000 likes. It was crazy,” he says.

Starnes pointed out some sharp commentators who suggested his son had uncovered some infidelity in his marriage. “I’m not worried about it but one person kept commenting about it so I once again made their own video explaining what happened to them.”

“Most of the responses were from other parents or teachers who told stories about what other kids were doing, so it was fun to read about their different experiences,” she continues. “It lets me know I’m not the only one with wild kids sometimes.”

The mom says it’s just another day in the life when it comes to parenting. “Kids are crazy. You never know what to expect, especially with little boys,” he laughs. “They’re a different breed.”
