Browns QB Jameis Winston defends viral pregame speeches: ‘This is who I am’

Jameis Winston, the first pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, has one of the most outgoing and infectious personalities in the league. Cleveland Browns The quarterback’s speeches to his teammates before kickoffs have often created viral moments.

Winston was placed starting role for the Browns’ Week 8 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens after Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending injury on Oct. 20.

The Browns entered last Sunday’s game on a five-game losing streak. But perhaps Winston’s speech — and certainly his 334 passing yards and three touchdowns — helped Cleveland improve to 29-24 Victory over Baltimore upset.

Extravagant pregame speeches are unique in their own right. On Wednesday, he defended the authenticity of his motivational messages and disputed any suggestion that he had rehearsed his speeches.

“Brother, listen, this is who I am.” Winston told reporters. “Like a lot of people, you spend your time wondering, ‘Who is this guy?’ If you waste your time trying to figure out the question, that’s how I am. If you want to listen to me, call a play, I’ll do it in front of the mirror. If you want to see things like that, find me looking at the playbook.”

A few years ago, videos were circulating on social media platforms showing Winston probing his teammates to see if they were interested in eating a “W”.

“It’s a W… Let’s eat one… How many people want to eat a W tonight?” Winston said before the match. Earlier this year, Winston sat down with “Pardon My Take” and explained that the lyric was derived from a motivational speech he enjoyed.

“I’ve been eating W since the beginning” Winston said. “This started a long, long time ago and it’s because my last name is W and the first four letters of my last name are spelled ‘won’. Go and check me out, it’s probably on Wikipedia.”

“This all stemmed from one of my favorite motivational speeches and it all surrounds a bowl of soup, do you all remember soup? Alphabet soup,” Winston asked.

Browns wide receiver Cedric Tillman shared his thoughts on Winston’s final pregame speech, saying, “I’m not going to lie… I was laughing a little bit.”

The win over the Ravens was only the second time this year the Browns were in the win order. But Winston and the Browns will look to keep the momentum going as they welcome the Los Angeles Chargers to Cleveland this Sunday.
