The girl died from her injuries, Reed told reporters Friday morning.

“The department extends its deepest condolences to the family,” Reed said.

He added that there was no danger to the general public but could not provide additional information about the incident.

“The investigation continues to evolve rapidly and releasing any further information at this time could harm the case,” the statement said. “We will update as soon as we release more information.”

On Thursday, authorities asked witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to call police at (401) 727-7411 or the TIPS line at (401) 727-7420. Police said all calls will remain anonymous.
