Nets Start Season Offensively Hot with Four Games to Play

Despite entering the season with the lowest expectations of any team in the NBA, the Brooklyn Nets are a surprising 2-2 in their first four games. Last night, Brooklyn lost to the Denver Nuggets, but it was an overtime thriller and a five-point loss.

The Nets were surprisingly effective on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively Brooklyn 28th in rating (118.4)but on the other hand the team eighth in offensive rating (115.2).

Much of the Nets’ offensive success comes not from a single player, but from the entire team. Brooklyn ranks 26th in player impact projection (44.4), while Cam Thomas leads the team in scoring by a wide margin (29.5 points per game).

So far, five Nets have averaged double-digit points in four games. Thomas, Dennis Schroder, Cam Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith and Ziaire Williams are averaging 87.9 points per game.

New head coach Jordi Fernandez has focused on shooting so far. Brooklyn ranks fourth in both three-pointers (16.8) And three-point field goal attempts (44.3) per game.

Thomas was expected to be the star of the team this year, but he took a big step forward to start the season. Although efficiency remained similar to last year, scoring became the most important thing. He has been given an extra 4.1 minutes per game so far compared to last season and has taken more shots, which could be the result of the upgrade.

Thomas’ burst of goals, combined with the effective performance of the team’s experienced players, made Fernandez’s job easier, but he applied a special system to this group. The Nets remain competitive as the NBA season continues.
