Fleetwood Community Theater performs ‘Alice in Wonderland Jr.’

Fleetwood Community Theater will be staged Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland Jr.” Nov. 15 and 16 at Willow Creek Elementary School in Fleetwood.

Designed for school-age performers, the 60-minute musical is based on the 1951 Disney film and Lewis Carroll’s novels. The community theater cast includes 26 students, directed by Evan Watkins.

Go down the rabbit hole as Alice, portrayed by Gracyn Moore, Kaitlyn Glickman and Peyton Kauker, navigates the curious world of Wonderland on her journey of self-discovery.

Throughout her adventure, Alice encounters the ever-late White Rabbit, played by Hadley Sinclair; the grinning Cheshire Cat, played by Seamus Moore, Isabella Osenbach and Persephone Smyth; A wonderful Caterpillar played by Lily Smith; the crazy Mad Hatter, played by Ash Bean; and the grumpy Queen, played by Taylor Troy, in an updated retelling of the classic Lewis Carroll stories.

Adapted especially for young artists, the musical includes music from Tim Burton’s 2010 live-action movie, as well as popular songs from the Disney canon such as “I’m Late”, “The Unbirthday Song” and “Painting the Roses Red”. .

Evan Watkins makes his directorial debut with Alice in Wonderland Jr.

Watkins started at Fleetwood Community Theater nine years ago as a member of the youth cast. He took part in 21 productions of public theater on stage and behind the scenes. He is assisted by assistant director Traci Gehringer, assistant stage manager David Gieringer and musical director Cathy Leibensperger.

Two performances on Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. and a matinee on Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. will be presented in the Willow Creek Elementary School Auditorium, 605 Criss Cross Road, Fleetwood, with reserved seating. General tickets for ages 14-64 are $18, seniors 65+ are $15, and students ages 5-13 are $10. Advance purchase of tickets is encouraged.
