Maple Heights Police Chief Todd Hansen said officers were called Signature Health at 21100 Southgate Park Boulevard. On April 24, around 13.20 in the afternoon.

According to the chief’s statement, Halasz was in a closed room with the 49-year-old male caregiver when he stabbed the caregiver.

The caregiver fled the room and Halasz chased her and managed to stab her several more times before another employee threw a chair at her.

The security guard at the scene was then able to confront Halasz and subdue him at gunpoint until officers arrived, police said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and Chief Hansen said he suffered injuries to his upper body and chest.

Maple Heights police praised the actions of Signature Health employees who worked together to stop the attacker and care for the victim until first responders arrived.

“Signature Health staff deserve great credit for their heroic actions in the face of danger,” police said.
