Self-confidence workshops grow in popularity from Colombia to Korea – Church News

In different corners of the world, self-confidence workshops It is growing in popularity and scope in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These initiatives are designed to help participants learn to support themselves, find better employment, and ultimately find ways to serve others.

The church aims to help individuals gain self-confidence through free courses, lifelong learning, service projects and volunteer work. Below are three current examples.

Riohacha, Colombia

Members of the Riohacha Branch of the Colombian Barranquilla Mission participated in a garden project launched by local Church leaders in September 2024 to promote self-sufficiency.

The Productive Garden Project was led by Jean Carlos Guerrero, local director of the Church for Prosperity and Self-Reliance. During the project day, citizens received information about agriculture, farming and plant cultivation. They also learned the importance of growing produce in their own home and were encouraged to take advantage of any space available (regardless of size) to start growing in their home.

Hermen González was responsible for training the participants, who agreed to contribute their time, space, resources and talents to launch the project. “This land will be a great opportunity for all of us to collaborate on this inspiring project,” he said.

Weeks after the project began, participants began working on the land, plowing, clearing and preparing the soil, under González’s guidance. Although the space was small, it was reported that it left the participants enthusiastic and grateful The Church’s Colombian Newsroom.

The project continues to progress and tomato seeds have already started to grow.

Chimbote, Peru

Chimbote Peru South Stake’s self-reliance committee organized a Self-Reliance Fair to help the community participate in self-reliance workshops.

He reported that forty entrepreneurs exhibited their products, while others prepared artistic presentations Church’s Peru Newsroom At the beginning of October. Educational institutions and universities, as well as non-profit organizations and charities, and a representative of the municipality of Nuevo Chimbote also attended.

Daejeon Korea Stake held a special event themed “Preparation for Worldly Self-Sufficiency” on July 20. This event built on previous training and risk-level planning to improve self-reliance and emergency preparedness. The church’s Korean Newsroom reported.

The event was divided into three separate events. At the first event, Kyung-Im Kim from Daejeon 1st Ward said the Church’s “Finding Strength in the Lord: Emotional Resilience” course. She talked about the importance of emotional independence and healthy lifestyle habits.

Kyung-Sook Baek, also from Daejeon 1st Ward, taught how to build a food warehouse and the blessings that can be obtained from it.

At the second event, each ward or branch prepared stands with information on different aspects of self-confidence, such as an emotional resilience stand and a personal finance stand. Other stands featured canned foods, 72-hour kits and short-term food storage.

The third activity included various humanitarian projects introduced by Hyun-Seok Cho of the Department of Welfare and Self-Reliance. These humanitarian projects emphasized the ultimate goal of self-reliance, which is the ability to serve others. After the event, 55 members began to actively participate in self-confidence lessons in the stake.
