“I hope other women recognize these red flags that I don’t see in Jon.”

Lies of abuse

In December 2019, Leah was working on M&S furniture deliveries in Cheshire while logistics operator Hutton was working at a sister office 200 miles away. Norfolk.

“We started texting after work. Jon was in a depressed state because of his controlling ex-girlfriend. He did not allow her to see her children.

“My heart broke for him. I told him I was a single mother with two children, aged seven and six.

“I confided in him about my anxiety and depression. Jon was caring and loving.

“Two months later he went to Cheshire to meet me. He was the whole package.”

He started playing mind games with me. He talked endlessly about his love for past women and made me feel worthless

They became a couple in March 2020 and Hutton moved to Cheshire with their children, moving into Leah’s home.

Every day he told Leah about his ‘terrible’ ex-partner and cried because he couldn’t see his children.

“She would cry in my arms,” says Leah. It was very bad.

“We fell deeply in love and Jon fit into my family. But months later, a Facebook message from his ex.

“She warned me that Jon was controlling and harassing her every day.

“I was furious, he was as mad as Jon said. I thought you were making it all up.

“I told him I didn’t believe him and to leave us alone.”

Leah says: “I started to notice that he was obsessed with his exes. He even wrote about them for a day.

“He started playing mind games with me. He talked endlessly about his love for past women and made me feel worthless.

“Jon belittled and bullied me every day; “He calls me a jerk and makes me cry.”

How to get help?

Women’s Aid has this advice for victims and their families:

  • Always keep your phone nearby.
  • Contact charities for help, including the Women’s Aid live chat helpline and services such as SupportLine.
  • If you are in danger, call 999.
  • Learn the Silent Solution, report abuse without speaking on the phone, by dialing “55” instead.
  • Always carry some cash with you, including coins for a pay phone or bus fare.
  • If you suspect your partner is about to attack you, try to move to a lower-risk area of ​​the house, such as one where there is a way out and phone access.
  • Avoid the kitchen and garage where knives or other weapons may be found. Avoid rooms where you could get stuck or confined to a closet or other small space, such as the bathroom.

In September 2020, Leah and Hutton hosted a takeout and movie night. One thing led to another and Leah instigated sex.

“Everything was fine until Jon aggressively stuck his hand between my legs,” says Leah.

“I told him to stop and that I was in pain. He ignored me and continued to hurt me.

“I tried to fight it by begging and crying. But he got angrier, he got stronger, but he still seemed to enjoy it. It was hell.

“He finally withdrew his hand. But he turned me over and raped me.

While I was yelling at him to stop, he yelled at me, ‘Keep going.’

“When I screamed at him to stop, he screamed at me, ‘Keep going.’

“Then I collapsed on the sofa, sobbing. I told him that he raped me.

“Jon happened to pull out his phone and Googled the word. ‘rape’. He read the description out loud.

“He denied it and acted like nothing had happened. I wanted to die inside.

“After that, whenever I tried to talk to him about it, he called me a bitch and said I couldn’t be raped.

“Other times he would threaten to pack his bags and leave. I fell in love, was trapped, and was brainwashed until I finally begged him not to leave.

Unfortunately, Leah completely lost it and sanity it got worse.

However, Hutton was a master manipulator and continued to torture Leah mentally.

In December 2020, after a year together, Leah I got pregnant with their babies.

“Jon told me to take my coil off and I was hoping he would be happy,” says Leah.

“But he was furious and told me I had ‘options’. It was like a knife had been stabbed into my heart.

“During the pregnancy, sometimes he wanted a kick and sometimes he ignored me.”

Leah gave birth to their daughter in August 2021. Just a month later, Jon left home to study business at a university in Wales before transferring to university in Lincoln.

Leah suddenly found herself a single mother raising an infant and two children on her own.

For the next two years, they had a long-distance relationship and visited each other on weekends.

“Jon was sending me cruel messages while he was away,” says Leah. I was at my breaking point.

“Next year, in 2023, police He contacted me and said that his ex-girlfriend had filed a criminal complaint against him.

“I remembered your messages warning me. I was so trapped and blind-sighted back then.

“I was horrified to hear Jon’s allegations that he had abused her and that everything he had told me was a lie.

“Then two more women came forward. I suddenly realized that I, too, was a victim of abuse.

“I took Jon’s diary from my bedroom drawer and went to the police station. “There I told them everything he did.”

Police pieced together Leah’s and other women’s cases to reveal that Hutton had abused four women in four different counties over 22 years.

They also read Hutton’s diary, which confessed to all the abuse he had inflicted on his ex over the years.

A chilling entry read: “I can’t believe she’s still with me even though I raped her, threw drinks on her.”

They used this as crucial evidence, and in April 2023, Hutton was arrested.

Sometime in December 2023 judge described him as ‘sociopathic’, ‘misogynistic’, ‘calculating’ and ‘dangerous and manipulative behaviour’.

Hutton was found guilty of one count of rape and one count of sexual assault by penetration against Leah at King’s Lynn Crown Court.

He was also found guilty of 14 counts of rape and sexual assault against three women.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment and a minimum of 14 years in prison.

Leah says: “I saw his ex warning me in court and I was mortified. I even felt guilty when I saw Jon there.

“I was devastated listening to the stories of other women. The way he humiliates and abuses us all.

“During the hearing, Jon rolled his eyes at all of us. I couldn’t stop crying.

“Unlike the others, I had a new relationship with Jon and I still loved him deeply.

“It was hard, but I knew I was doing the right thing. Jon needed to go to prison to prevent more women from being hurt.

“After the case was over, we hugged and went for a cup of tea with the other women.

“It was nice to have each other after everything we had been through.

“I’m focusing on being a good mother now. But my daughter reminds me of Jon every day.

“The other women and I still keep in touch, we’ve been through a lot.

“For any woman like me, you too can get the justice you deserve and make sure monsters like Jon are put away.”
