CBS News poll shows Democrat Casey with narrow lead in Pennsylvania’s Senate race

In a key US Senate race PennsylvaniaDemocratic incumbent Bob Casey is still ahead. His lead over Republican Dave McCormick is currently six points, which is within the margin of error.

Most voters in the state describe Casey’s stances as generally “reasonable” rather than “extreme,” and in that respect Casey has an advantage over McCormick, who has more mixed views.

Casey had also led the race in CBS News’ previous poll. April And September.

The competitiveness of the race is no surprise, as many previously undecided voters appeared to lean closer to the GOP. While Republicans support McCormick in large numbers, there is room for improvement on this issue. But his 84 percent support from Republicans still doesn’t match Casey’s 92 percent support among Democrats.

While Casey’s lead is not secure, she is running significantly ahead of Kamala Harris. Who is at loggerheads with Donald Trump? in the state’s presidential race. Compared to Harris’ margins, Casey does particularly well with non-college white men; He loses them, but by half the margin of Harris.

And Trump’s support for McCormick may not help much. More likely than not, voters are saying it won’t make any difference whether they support McCormick or not. A third of the independents McCormick needed to lay the groundwork for also say it has empowered them little will probably support it. Overall, 7% of Pennsylvania voters say they are unsure of their Senate vote.

This CBS News/YouGov survey was conducted with a representative statewide sample of 1,273 registered voters in Pennsylvania interviewed between October 22-28, 2024. The sample was weighted by gender, age, race, education, and geographic region based on U.S. Census data. and voter files as well as information on past votes. Registered voters have a margin of error of ±3.6 points.
