Carroll men’s soccer team ends the regular season as league champions for the first time

HELENA — The Carroll College men’s soccer team closed out the regular season Sunday with a 2-0 victory over the University of Providence at Nelson Stadium, but the Fighting Saints captured a historic league championship two days earlier.

The Saints won their first league title in program history by winning the Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season championship on Friday, thanks to Southern Oregon’s loss to Northwestern (Wash.).

On Sunday, the Saints got goals from Justus Hermann and Alfie Snow to beat Providence. Hermann scored in the 40th minute, while Snow scored another goal in the 46th minute.

Carroll finished the regular season with a 12-2-3 overall record and an 11-1-1 mark in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The Saints have won five straight games and are unbeaten in their last six.

With the regular season title, the Saints received one of the conference’s two automatic qualifying bids for the NAIA men’s soccer tournament in late November.

First Carroll will look to back up their historic season with their first CCC tournament title, where they will be in first place. The Saints play No. 8 seed Multnomah (Ore.) on Nov. 10 and at 1 p.m.
