Washington officials retrieved approximately 475 damaged ballots from burned ballot box

Authorities in southwestern Washington state removed about 475 damaged ballots from a drop box. damaged by fire An act of arson caused by incendiary devices is being investigated by local police and the FBI.

Both ballot boxes had fire suppression systems, but the system inside the ballot box in Vancouver malfunctioned, causing more ballots to be destroyed.

Vehicle suspected of arson

Investigators collected enough material from incendiary devices Monday to connect the two fires, officials said. The fires were also linked to an October 8 incident in which an incendiary device was placed at a different ballot box in Vancouver. No ballot papers were damaged in this incident.

Police said incendiary devices were placed outside the boxes.

Portland Police Bureau released two surveillance photos of a black or dark colored Volvo S-60 that they believe is linked to the ballot box fires.

No arrests had been announced as of Tuesday evening.

Speaking to Fox News Digital on Tuesday, Kendiy said voters who dropped off their ballots at the transit center drop box after 11 a.m. Saturday should contact his office for a replacement ballot and strongly encouraged voters to check the status of their ballots at: vote.wa.gov.

Authorities said they were increasing the frequency with which ballots are collected from polling stations and that police would increase patrols around polling places.

Clark County Elections Office workers will also monitor ballot drop boxes 24 hours a day, seven days a week leading up to the election. The election is over. Workers will not confront anyone, but instead contact the police if they notice anything suspicious.
