The Supreme Court (HC) postponed the hearing on a rule questioning the legality of the 15th amendment of the constitution today (October 30) until November 6.

The decision was given by the Supreme Court Division bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury.

Senior Advocate Zainul Abedin, Fida M Kamal and Badruddoza Badal were present in BNP while Advocate Mohammad Shisihir Manir was present in Jamaat-e-Islami. State Chief Public Prosecutor Md. Represented by Asadüzzaman.

The Supreme Court issued a rule on August 19 asking why the 15th amendment of the constitution should not be deemed illegal.

Five eminent citizens, including Badiul Alam Majumder, submitted a letter challenging the validity of the 15th amendment. Later, Cemaat and BNP became parties to the case.

On 30 June 2011, the 15th Amendment to the Constitution of Bangladesh was made during the then Awami League government.

With this change, the caretaker government system was abolished and the number of seats reserved for women in the Turkish Grand National Assembly was increased from 45 to 50.
