Latest budget: Chancellor announces biggest tax increase budget since 1993 as employers’ national insurance increase confirmed | Politics News

Chancellor Rachel Reeves has confirmed that the £3 bus fare cap will be extended for another year until December 2025.

This is up from £2 for a single journey fare.

Ms Reeves explains: “While the previous government’s policy was for the bus fare cap to end this December, we understand how important bus services are to our communities.

“We will extend the cap for another year and set it at £3 by December 2025.”

The Chancellor has also pledged to deliver over £650 million of local transport funding to “improve connections across the country, in our towns such as Crewe and Grimsby, and in our villages and rural areas from Cornwall to Cumbria”.

In addition to transport, Ms Reeves said there would be £1.3bn in funding to “improve connectivity across our city regions”.

This includes projects such as the expansion of the Brierley Hill Underground in the West Midlands, the renewal of the Sheffield Supertram and West Yorkshire Public Transport.
