Windermere Pass road changes recommended for approval

The Windermere Gateway project aims to tackle traffic congestion, redevelop the town’s railway station and build affordable homes.

It was designed by the National Trust, Westmorland and Furness Council and the Lake District National Park Authority.

However, those who object are concerned that the plan will cause traffic disruption, destroy natural habitats and have a negative visual impact.

But planning documents state: “Having regard to the information provided in support of the application and the Local Highways Authority’s conclusions, I consider that the development will not have an unacceptable impact on road safety or cause serious cumulative impacts on the road network. The proposed conditions.”

Development control committee members are recommended to approve the plans on November 6.
