Funeral home owner arrested on multiple counts of Abuse of a Corpse

a 39 year old Georgia Douglas man, arrested and charged A lawsuit was filed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) on 17 counts of Abuse of a Corpse.

This arrest follows an investigation that began Saturday, Oct. 26, at the request of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, according to a news release. GBI press release.

While initially serving the eviction notice to Chris Johnson of 2760 US Hwy. On 441 South, deputies discovered 18 decomposed bodies at Johnson Funeral Home, leaving many families searching for answers.

Johnson ran unsuccessfully for Coffee County coroner last May.

Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be turned over to the Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
