Government notified of new Southport charges from last few weeks

It comes after two candidates for the Conservative leadership raised questions about the new allegations.

Robert Jenrick claimed the information was “hidden” from the public.

“We were told for months that this was not a terrorism-related incident, but we learned that the suspect had allegedly read al-Qaeda manuals and had access to dangerous substances such as ricin,” he said.

“Given the extent of the public interest, I think it is an important question to ask why this information was not made public before. So I ask the public authorities and the prime minister, when did they know about this and why was the decision taken not to be more honest and transparent with the public?” “

Kemi Badenoch, meanwhile, suggested that “serious questions need to be asked about the police, the CPS and also Keir Starmer’s response.”

He did not elaborate on what these questions were and suggested that these questions should be asked in Parliament.

Police say it is “absolutely not the case” that they are hiding things from the public. It would be highly unusual for them to broadcast details of a live police investigation.

The CPS claims it took time to bring charges because this was a “long and complex investigation”.
