Where Is Michigan State In The Rankings After Losing To Their Rivals?

Michigan State had mixed results in the first half of the season.

However, it is arguable that more good than bad things have happened to Michigan State this season. A three-game losing streak and a three-game winning streak were signs that the Spartans had potential but plenty of room to grow.

Even after losing to Michigan, the Spartans ranked as the 13th-best Big Ten team out of 18 teams in the conference. They’re ahead of Maryland, which they’ve already beaten and is ranked 65th among the nation’s best. Rutgers was ranked 67th, while Northwestern was ranked 91st, best in college football. UCLA was ranked 107th best and Purdue was ranked 115th best.

Although losing to Michigan didn’t hurt their bowl chances much, the Spartans sorted It became the 62nd best team after USA Today’s Paul Myerberg updated its rankings to 1-134. That’s four spots down from where he ranked a week ago. Michigan State is 4-4 on the season and 2-3 in the Big Ten, hoping to pick up a few more wins before it’s too late.

The Spartans’ next two games will be tough, then their last two games will be significantly easier.

Even though Michigan State has fallen in the rankings, it is still on schedule when it comes to rebuilding its football program. A new coach with many new pieces will be struggling in his first season, entering into a complex situation that the previous manager left behind. Still, Smith has guided Michigan State to the same number of wins as last season, and they still have four games left to get more wins.

The Spartans have a chance to build a solid foundation for the future of Michigan State’s football program. Michigan State coach Jonathan Smith has been tasked with turning the football program around. In addition to the transfer portal and recruiting avenues, the quickest way to do this would be to make it to a bowl game this season. Doing so would legitimize the work Smith and his staff have done this season. This would reinforce that Smith is the man for the job and that the Spartans are on the right track.
