The Jacksonville Jaguars have a lot of problems after a 2-6 start.

Trevor Lawrence is far from being one of them.

Any quarterback who has a 2-6 record as a starter will be subject to criticism. Especially when games are lost like Lawrence and the Jaguars did, with the Jaguars owning a 1-4 record in one-score games.

But as we go up and down the list of the problems the Jaguars are facing and why they lost 30-27 to the Green Bay Packers in Week 8, Lawrence is nowhere near the top, not even in the middle. In fact, the fourth-year passer is near the bottom.

Yes, Lawrence helped the Jaguars get into the hole they were in on Sunday. He turned the ball over twice in the Jaguars’ own territory, including a fumble at the five-yard line. 14 of the Packers’ 30 points resulted in turnovers.

But the Jaguars wouldn’t have come close to an upset victory without Lawrence and his penchant for bouncing back from mistakes. Despite the loss of artillery, Lawrence continued to fire. He didn’t find himself cowering or hiding.

And when the cards were on the table and the Jaguars needed Lawrence to overcome two different 10-point deficits (one in the first half, the other in the second), he did just that. And he did it a second time, without any of his top three receivers, as a backup at left tackle, and without Travis Etienne.

Instead, Lawrence led a game-tying drive with two special teams-oriented receivers, two tight ends and D’Ernest Johnson on third down on the field.

“Yes I am. I’m very pleased with how we responded. You don’t want to be 10 points behind but we’ve been 10 points behind for two weeks in a row but we fought back. “Given the amount of injuries we had late in the game, it’s pretty remarkable that we ended up doing what we did to tie the football game,” Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said Monday.

“I thought Trevor (Lawrence) did a great job leading the team. The guys around him, Parker, Tim (Jones), Evan (Engram), Brenton (Strange), they made plays for him as well. The Offensive Line did some good things. So that part of it was good, and now we just have to somehow transfer that to the first play of the game and go from there.”

But despite Lawrence’s heroics, the Jaguars fell short once again. The defense was falling apart at the seams, allowing the Packers to get into the field goal zone on just two plays.

Lawrence struggled at times on Sunday, but he also weathered every negative play and put the Jaguars on his shoulders. That’s why Jaguar’s current staff doesn’t have to fix Lawrence, and neither will the next one if Pederson and company are replaced.

Instead, Lawrence will be the most compelling part of a story. potential recruitment search. Matches like Sunday’s are exactly why.
