Palm Beach’s Worth Boulevard Historic Walking Tour returns November 20

Join an award-winning local history guide and learn more about the island’s iconic shopping district during the Worth Avenue Association’s award-winning Historic Walking Tour.

Led by Rick Rose, association historian and author of the local travel blog and Palm Beach tourism guide, the tours begin Nov. 20 and are scheduled every Wednesday, except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, through April 30.

During the 75-minute tour, guests will visit many landmarks along the street as Rose details the origins and history of the shopping district, which dates back over 100 years.

Rose told the Daily News on Monday that the tour will cover three main topics, most notably the history of Worth Boulevard and its importance as home to the early Mediterranean Revival styles of famed Palm Beach architect Addison Mizner.

The second issue Rose addressed and added when he took over as tour leader in 2011 was the importance of the street in terms of its connection to the history of luxury fashion. According to Rose, Worth Avenue, historically a place surrounded by wealthy socialites and frequently visited by popular icons, hosts many fashion designers who want to make their mark on the world of luxury clothing.

“People know the Boulevard of Worth in London and Paris,” Rose said, noting the street’s role as an “incubator” for emerging luxury designers such as Lilly Pulitzer.

Finally, Rose will detail fun and interesting anecdotes about the people who shop, live and work on Worth Boulevard.

One interesting example that Rose mentions on most tours is Mizner’s pet monkey, Johnnie Brown, whose tombstone is found in the courtyard of Via Mizner.

Rose spent three years as understudy for former association historian James Ponce before taking over the tour.

earlier this year His efforts earned him the Providencia Award from Discover the Palm Beaches. The county’s tourism marketing agency. This is the first time an individual, rather than an organization, has won the award since Ponce won the award 10 years ago.

Tours begin at 10:30 a.m. at Via Amore, 256 Worth Ave. Parking options include two-hour metered parking on Worth Avenue and four-hour metered parking on Peruvian Avenue using the ParkMobile App. Both locations cost $5 an hour. Guests can also park in the Apollo parking lot at 405 Hibiscus Ave.

The event is wheelchair accessible as there are no steps along the three-quarter mile tour. Those with mobility issues are encouraged to bring a wheelchair or electric scooter.

Tours are limited to 40 participants, but guests can choose to add their names to the waiting list when dates are sold out.

Rose said this year, for the first time, all attendees will receive a small gift courtesy of the Palm Beach Historical Society, but he declined to provide details.

The tour costs $25 per person, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Palm Beach County Historical Society. Sign up online at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/worth-avenue-historic-walking-tour-tickets-739526372287?aff=oddtdtcreator.
