‘OMITB’ Finale Sets Up for a Brutal Season 5: Who’s the Killer?

(This story contains major spoilers.) Just Murders in the Building fourth season finale.)

Finally, We know who killed Sazz Patakiand why? Unfortunately, there is no time to relax because another body fell to the ground at the end of the last attack. Just Murders in the Building season.

The fourth season ended in its final episode with the reveal that Jin Ha’s stunt double had turned writer. Marshall P. Popeas the finger behind the trigger and the person responsible for firing Killing Sazz (Jane Lynch) last season. Reason: Stealing Sazz’s script for Arconia’s lead trio and passing it off as his own. Produced and released in the wake of the WGA strike in 2023, Pope’s killer role comes across as a commentary on the power of writing and the lengths some will go to silence the arts, while also drawing a line at often-unsung industry veterans like stunt workers. .

Pope’s role in the events is revealed in the penultimate episode, which is something of a tradition. Just Murders information. But this is usually accompanied by a revealing twist in the finale. Not so this year; Pope is the killer and he did it all by himself. Case closed, that’s enough.

What is much more complicated is the planning of the murder. The fifth season has already been renewed. In the closing moments of the season, Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) Walk through Arconia’s courtyard and discover a murder victim, albeit just outside the building: longtime doorman Lester, played by Teddy Coluca. The episode ends with the big three outside panicking as they call for help and Lester’s lifeless body bleeding out in a fountain filled with red water. A pretty scary sight. Just Murders standards, leaving the door open for a charged investigation in season five.

So who killed Lester? Yes, we are already asking this question because it is never too early to bring suspects to the homicide panel. As we head into season four and five, we can already take some big names and put them on the list (and possibly cross them off). Examples include:

Jan Körük: The serial killer from Amy Ryan’s original season struck again in season four, giving us a rare second murder in the same season. However, Jan returns to police custody immediately after sniping and killing Marshall P. Pope from a distance. Could he have somehow escaped them in order to kill Lester? It feels pretty counterintuitive, but at the same point, it feels silly to eliminate the only living person on this show who commits murder and actually loves her. Plus, as he tells Charles four moments during his senior season: “You and I are at the end game!”

Cinda Canning: Tina Fey’s podcaster was completely absent from season four. In the second season, he was the most likely suspect on the board heading into the finale, but the real killer was revealed to be his protégé Poppy. After a full season on the ice, can Cinda finally return to put the murder money where her murderous mouth is? We still need to find out who Moriarity is. Just Murders in the Building It is, and Cinda is as doubtful about it as anyone.

Uma Heller: Jackie Hoffman’s curly neighbor is probably our next best option. He lived in Arconia for as long as any other character we know in the series. Charles hates Oliver and Mabel. And it could be argued that her podcast investigation in the first season directly led to the murder of her friend Bunny (Jayne Houdyshell) in the season one finale. If any resident of Arconia has a reason to want these three dead, it’s Uma. Why would he want Lester dead? This is the big mystery…

Howard Morris: There’s another member of the Arconia community now worth checking out: Michael Cyril Creighton’s Howard. Despite being a series regular, Howard, who was largely absent from action in season four, is someone who should always be on the suspect list due to his longevity on the show. He was one of the first suspects in season one, and with a “Moriarty” problem in the building, he should remain a suspect until proven otherwise – although if he’s a murderer, that’s probably who he is. He killed his own cat in season one, which is a pretty dark turn for the character. Darker than killing Lester? Depends on what skeletons are in the dead janitor’s closet…

who does You You think you killed Lester?
