Alabama’s ‘Top Chef’ returns to Birmingham

Dothan, Alabama chef Kelsey Barnard Clark is no stranger to Birmingham, and this weekend “Top Chef” winner will return to the Magic City for two events celebrating the release of her new cookbook, “Southern Gatherings: A Guide to Hosting Memorable Gatherings.”

One of these events has already sold out, but Clark’s fans still have a second opportunity to see her and get a signed copy of her cookbook.

Friday afternoon, Nov. 1, at 2013 Second Ave. in downtown Birmingham. Helen restaurant at North will host a cocktail hour and conversation between Clark and Southern Living’s Betsy Cribb Watson at the restaurant’s upstairs bar.

All tickets for this event gone.

But on Saturday morning, November 2, Clark will return. Market at Pepper Place for a free cooking demo featuring a recipe from her new cookbook.

His demo begins at 9 a.m., and Clark will also sign copies of “Southern Encounters,” which will be available for purchase at the market.

Pepper Place farmers market, 2829 Second Ave. in Birmingham. It is located at South. Working hours are 7 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

“Southern Encounters” is Clark’s second cookbook. “Southern Grit: More than 100 Homemade Recipes for the Modern Cook” Featuring recipes and tips for hosting backyard barbecues, game day parties, and tailgates in 2021 and new.

Includes Clark’s smoked brisket recipe. He recently shared with AL.com.

Earlier this fall, chef and owner Clark KBC restaurant In Dothan, he was one of the celebrity chefs at the second annual event Birmingham Food + Culture FestivalAttended the Food + Market Mix event at Pepper Place and Southern Living’s Food + Fire tailgate party at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark.

In addition Won Season 16 of “Top Chef” in 2019clark was 2024 James Beard Award semifinalist – with Helen’s Rob McDaniel — for Best Chef: South.
