Mississippi State Football Ranked #1: Morning Bell, October 29

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State can now boast the best team in the SEC, if not the nation. And it’s not the football team.

The Bulldogs’ women’s soccer team defeated Texas A&M, 2-0, in College Station, Texas, to secure regular-season SEC champion status. They are also ranked #1 in the country. TopDrawerSoccer Top 25 Rankings It was published on Monday.

Mississippi is ranked No. 3 in the two major Top 25 rankings (TopDrawerSoccer and United Soccer Coaches Association), but beats No. 1 Duke, No. 2 Wake Forest and No. 7 Notre Dame to put Duke 3-1 last week. It forced a 3-way draw. It’s not unthinkable for the Bulldogs to be ranked No. 1 in multiple polls.

β€œThis is an incredibly special night for our program,” Mississippi State coach James Armstrong said. “Winning the regular season is a testament to the committed work ethic of the players, coaches and staff. They all come in every day ready to go through the grind, so it’s only fitting that they all be rewarded in this way.”

Mississippi State may have already secured the SEC Regular Season Championship, but the regular season isn’t over yet. The Bulldogs will travel to South Carolina on Wednesday to finish the regular season. Kickoff time is set for 18:00 on SEC Network+.

Mississippi State volleyball player McKenna Yates was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. It’s the second time this season the freshman has won the weekly award. Yates had a team-best 37 digs in two games last week and led the SEC with 5.29 digs per set. In addition to his digs, he made 12 assists, the second most among the Bulldogs of the week.
