Some RTC bus stops are temporarily closed due to F1 routes

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – As Formula 1 returns to Las Vegas, RTC buses are bypassing closed areas on the Strip and that means some bus stops will be temporarily closed.

Most riders we spoke to Monday didn’t even realize a closure was looming within a few hours, even though signs were posted at the westbound Spring Mountain stop west of Las Vegas Boulevard directing them to a temporary stop a block away.

“No, actually I had no idea until you said it. I had absolutely no idea,” bus driver Jared Johnson said.

An RTC spokesperson sent a statement regarding the bus closures:

“The RTC’s preparation for this year’s F1 race is much different due to the reduced impacts caused by last year’s track resurfacing. This is for a shorter period of time, although some bus routes may still require detours, particularly during race week. We recognize that any detours would be inconvenient for our customers, but temporary stops may still require a long walk to the driver’s destination (a distance of a mile or more) to increase predictability. “For this purpose, we implement special programs for the routes that deviate from the route during the race week.”

Johnson, who caught the bus at the Spring Mountain stop on his way home from work at the Venetian, said the extra walk would further compound the discomfort of F1’s commute, followed by a slow bus ride through traffic and roadblocks.

“A half hour and 45 minute journey can turn into a one and a half hour journey. And despite all the detours, there is nothing to say,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of other Strip workers who use the same bus stop, Johnson said, “I guarantee you that none of them have any idea about this, about rerouting Spring Mountain. They’ll come tonight and find out it’s not there.”

“You should know that you need to have certain apps that will give you detours and different routes to take,” he added.

Formula 1 launched its own website this year to help people navigate construction. Asked if he had heard of anyone using it, Johnson replied: “The F1 website? NO.”

An F1 spokesperson also commented on the bus stop closures: “Track preparations (pre-race, race week and post-event) have decreased by 65% compared to last year. The RTC is an integral partner in planning and providing alternative routes, making them available and widely publicised.” “It happened.”
