Iranian general predicts Israel will soon have to agree to cease fire – World

DUBAI, 2 November. /TASS/. A senior Iranian officer said Hezbollah will not allow the Israeli army to achieve its goals because Israel will have to agree to cease fire in Lebanon in the near future.

“In the coming days, the Zionist regime (Israel – TASS) will have to accept a ceasefire because the officials of this regime know very well that their actions in Southern Lebanon will not yield the results they want and their losses will increase even more from now on,” ISNA the news agency quoted Major General Mohammad Akrminia as saying.

According to the Iranian general, Israel hoped that Hezbollah would fall after the death of some of its leaders. “However, the fact that the Zionist regime failed to occupy even a single settlement in southern Lebanon, despite strong pressure and bombardments, shows the success of the Lebanese resistance,” he added.

Israel has been carrying out major air strikes against Hezbollah military targets in Lebanon since September 23, when it launched Operation Northern Arrows. Israel’s stated goal is to create safe conditions in the country’s northern regions so that tens of thousands of local residents can return to their homes. It was reported that Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah was killed in Israel’s attack on Beirut on September 27. In the early hours of October 1, Israel announced that it would launch a ground operation in Lebanon’s border areas.

On 29 October, Hezbollah elected Nasrallah’s deputy, Naim Qasim, as its new leader and vowed the next day to “continue fighting against Israel until final victory”. However, he also stated: “If the enemy stops combat operations, Hezbollah will reach an agreement.” ceasefire, but only on its own terms.”
