This Weekend’s UFC Fight Night Includes 2 Big Rule Changes

Two major UFC overhauls will go into effect this weekend at UFC Edmonton.

The Nov. 2 Fight Night, featuring the flyweight main event between Brandon Moreno and Amir Albazi, features tweaks to two controversial rules: the 12-6 elbow ban and the grounded opponent rule.

Fighters will no longer be able to stop fights by placing one hand on the canvas to discourage kicks and knees. The new definition of ‘fallen warrior’ is as follows:

“A fighter cannot legally be kneed or kicked in the head when any part of his body other than his hands or feet touches the tarp (ground).” (h/t Ariel Helwani)

This means that a fighter is only considered down if anything other than his hands or feet touches the canvas.
