The Sag Wagon, a popular Cedar Rapids bar, will close its doors by November after being ticketed for the second time in a year for serving alcohol to a minor.

The business announced it will be temporarily closed on: Facebookadmits violation and agrees to suspension of liquor license for 30 days. The bar and restaurant, located on the Cedar Valley Nature Trail and frequented by bikers and locals alike, plans to reopen Dec. 1.

In addition to the suspension, Sag Wagon faces a $1,500 fine under Iowa Statute 123.47, which imposes increased penalties for repeat violations involving serving minors.

Iowa’s administrative sanctions for such violations are strict:

1. The first offense within two years can result in a $500 fine or 14-day license suspension.
2. A second violation within two years, like Sag Wagon’s, results in a 30-day suspension and a $1,500 fine.
3. A third violation during this period will result in a 60-day suspension.
4. The fourth in three years could result in the permanent revocation of the liquor license.

“We accept our mistake and accept the 30-day closure penalty,” Sag Wagon’s post said. “Our staff is committed to doing better in the future.”
