Robert Roberson’s brother defends his innocence with new letter

TYLER, Texas (KETK) – Thomas Roberson, brother of death row inmate Robert Roberson, responded to a letter published by members of Nikki Curtis’ family.

Nikki Curtis’ family breaks silence on Roberson hearings

Robert, a Palestinian man, is the subject of ongoing controversy over a trial in which he was sentenced to death for the 2003 murder of his daughter, Nikki.

Robert was scheduled to be executed on October 17, but the Texas House of Representatives Criminal Justice Committee intervened by issuing an unprecedented subpoena This caused the Texas Supreme Court to stay the execution.

Nikki’s brother Matthew Bowman, Nikki’s aunt Jessica Rachelle Carriere, and Nikki’s grandfather Larry Gene Bowman First, a letter received by KETK was published. who alerted the committee and insisted that Roberson was guilty based on evidence other than the Shaken Baby Theory used to convict him.

In light of this letter, Robert’s older brother Thomas made a public statement to express his continued support for his brother’s innocence.

KETK directly summarizes and quotes Thomas’s letter:

“I am Thomas Roberson. Robert Roberson is my brother. Nikki was his daughter and my precious niece. Her death at age two and his accusation devastated our entire family. No one who knew Robert well believed he could harm any child. And to this day, he I’m convinced he couldn’t have done what he was accused of. I don’t claim to understand the science of “Shaken Baby” or know Nikki’s medical history, but I knew Robert when we were growing up, and he was always someone who stood up for kids who were made fun of by others. “I have never seen him say a bad word to anyone, including the two disabled children he had before Nikki and whom our family raised without any intervention from their mother.”

Thomas goes on to describe how Robert stepped in to care for Nikki after Child Protective Services took her from her mother. Thomas said Robert said he had now turned his life around and returned to Palestine to care for Nikki.

“When I was 20 or 21, my mom and also Robert and I took Nikki to visit a few times before we got custody of her. The Roberson family threw a big party for Nikki when she turned two. Everyone thought she was so sweet and cute. Then the following month, the Bowmans, Nikki’s step-grandmother and maternal grandfather, agreed that Robert should be given custody of Nikki. “We were all very happy for him.”

According to his letter, the time since Nikki’s death and Robert’s trial “has been a long nightmare,” but Robert is still praying for his entire family.

Thomas ends his letter by addressing the authors of the letter from Nikki’s family. She notes that Nikki’s brother, Matthew, is only 4 years old and does not know Robert, as Thomas reportedly never spends time with his family.

Nikki’s grandfather reiterated that Larry trusted Robert enough to take custody of Nikki. Thomas said he understands the pain felt by Nikki’s family, but believes they only spoke out publicly to justify Robert’s execution.

“These people do not know my brother and should not see the pain they are causing by spreading untrue stories about him and his case that they had no way of knowing. This kind of cruelty, on top of a very sad situation, does no one any good. Nikki has a father who loves her and a family who loves her. I saw my brother with Nikki and I know that he did not harm his child in any way. “I hope the truth will come out one day before it’s too late,” he said.
