Maximum It hosts a lot of content, but how is the horror selection? Movies change throughout the year, and right now you can watch new movies like Maxxxine and classics like The Shining. Below you can find a move that will allow you to skip a frighteningly long call.

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

George Romero’s first horror movie is an easy recommendation. While a group of survivors take shelter in a house, members of the living dead gather outside. Influential film often considered the first modern zombie movieAlthough it does not offer Freddy Krueger-level scares, you will be fascinated by the characters at the center of the story. You’ll want to leave the door open for this one (but in case of a real apocalypse, keep the door very, very closed).

Warner Bros.

When this adaptation of the classic Stephen King novel hit theaters in 2017, moviegoers like me did a double-take at the storm drains and were scared off by the red balloons. With a cast of plucky kids and a lot of heart, it makes a compelling case for more supernatural coming-of-age stories. And a strong case against clowns.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

This iconic slasher is streaming on Max along with most of its sequels, so it could be a marathon. The first film follows young Nancy Thompson and her friends as they begin to see the same man in their dreams, a disfigured, sweater-wearing villain who wields a knife with one hand. Good luck trying to sleep tonight.

If you’re still looking for a horror movie, you can’t go wrong with the excellent The Shining, directed by Stanley Kubrick and starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. In this film, adapted from a Stephen King novel, some disturbing changes are seen in the behavior of a writer (Nicholson) who is staying with his family in a remote hotel. This will definitely satisfy your fear cravings.

Horrors occur in broad daylight in this unforgettable film by Ari Aster. Many disturbing surprises await guests in Midsommar, which takes place at a midsummer festival in a remote village in Sweden. Get ready for shocking scenes and riveting performance from Florence Pugh.

David Lynch’s first feature film will make you feel like you’re in a strange nightmare. The 90-minute black-and-white horror film is filled with strange sounds and images, and the result is incredibly spooky. Don’t even get me started on the main character’s strange, otherworldly-looking “baby” (is that still oddly adorable?). There are messages about men and parenting here, but even putting the big picture aside, the surreal world of Eraserhead is definitely worth seeing.

This brutal horror film is about what happens when a family living in a secluded house and a desperate couple with a small child come into the picture after an unnamed disaster. The scares aren’t supernatural, but this heartbreaking movie will blow your mind.

Want to jog your memory about the terrifying events of the original Exorcist? Ellen Burstyn plays the mother of a possessed 12-year-old girl who enlists the help of a priest. The completely frightening film also won an Oscar for best adapted screenplay.

In this bloody supernatural horror story, a family accidentally uncovers some unimaginable evil. It is the fifth film in the film series, following The Evil Dead (1981), Evil Dead II (’87), Army of Darkness (’92) and Evil Dead (2013).
