According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, a teacher who was hit by a car in front of Arts High School on October 23 died from his injuries.

Laura Cuevas, 66, died Saturday night at University Hospital, authorities said.

Cuevas was an art teacher at East Ward Elementary School, according to a Newark Public School District spokesperson.

“He has battled hard since being injured in Wednesday’s tragic incident. We ask everyone who knew her to keep her husband, sons, and family in your thoughts and prayers,” a spokesperson for the Newark Public School District wrote in a statement.

Authorities said Cuevas was injured when two cars collided in front of the High School of the Arts. “A vehicle lost control and struck Ms. Cuevas, pinning her against the exterior wall of the building,” the prosecutor’s office said.

Another teacher and two drivers were also injured and treated at University Hospital.
