Man shot twice by Weld County sheriff’s deputy east of Greeley

A gunman was shot and wounded by a Weld County sheriff’s deputy near Greeley on Sunday, according to investigators.

According to a news release from the 19th Judicial District Critical Response Team, around 12:16 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a reported disturbance in the 200 block of 2nd Avenue Lane in unincorporated Weld County just east of Greeley.

When deputies arrived, they found a man with a gun, and investigators say he fired his gun while deputies were on scene. They did not say whether the man opened fire on deputies.

The Weld County deputy shot the man, whose identity was not publicly released, twice in response, investigators said in the statement.

Investigators said paramedics took the man to the hospital and he was expected to survive.
