Top South Jersey High School Football Players of Week 8 of 2024

Week 8 of the high school football season is in the books and it was once again a week filled with outstanding performances.

Read the top 15 (plus one late entry) here and vote for who you think had the best week below. Voting will continue until Thursday morning.

Garrett Leyman of Woodstown The winner of last week’s poll received 42.8 percent of the more than 14,000 votes recorded. Paul VI’s Austin Bailey And Donte Davis from Burlington City He determined the three people who received the most votes.

Top performers

Lotzeir Brooks, Millville. The senior player will play in St. Petersburg on Friday. He added another record to his resume by becoming the state’s all-time leading receiver during a 27-21 loss against St. Augustine. Brooks had five catches for 120 yards and a touchdown, bringing his career total to 4,243.

KaRon Ceaser, Penns Grove. The sophomore found the end zone three times in a 27-0 win over Salem. He ran for two touchdowns and caught a pass for a third score. He has six TDs in his last two games.

Xavier Cocci, Egg Harbor County. The sophomore quarterback completed 12 of 14 passes for 215 yards and two scores, while also rushing for 85 yards and two more touchdowns to highlight the Eagles’ 42-13 victory over Atlantic County Tech. The QB has thrown for eight touchdowns and rushed for 10 this season.

Benjamin Cohen, Buena. The senior rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns and had a team-best 10 tackles during Buena’s 30-0 win over Wildwood. For the season, Cohen has 768 rushing yards, eight touchdowns from scrimmage, and 87 total tackles from the defensive spot.

Brody Deiter, Rancocas Valley. The senior scored three goals in a pivotal third quarter, two within 90 seconds, as the Red Devils defeated Lenape 42-21. Deiter sandwiched a pick-6 around a pair of touchdown catches. He has 54 catches for 1,032 yards and 15 touchdowns this fall.

Cole DeNick, Kingsway. The sophomore rushed 16 times for 128 yards and two touchdowns as the Dragons finished the regular season with a 7-2 record. DeNick leads Kingsway with 11 offensive TDs, including eight in his last five games.

Tommy DiPietro, Kingsway. The outside linebacker had 12 tackles, including one for loss, during the Dragons’ 35-7 victory in Williamstown. The senior has more than 200 career tackles and broke the old record of 178 set by his older brother DJ.

Jake Hasson, Seneca. Hasson, who took over after the starting quarterback was sidelined due to injury, made the most of his start from the spot, completing 8 for 11 passes for 135 yards and three touchdowns during the 19-18 win at Willingboro. He reversed the second shot on a double and scored the decisive goal late in the fourth quarter.

Reilly Hoffacker, Cedar Creek. The senior quarterback led the Pirates on a 99-yard drive and a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jahmir Campfield in the final minute for a 7-0 home victory over Ocean City. He finished with 173 passing yards and extended his TD streak to six games.

Ryan Morley, Triton. The senior had four catches for 70 yards and three touchdowns as the Mustangs galloped toward their third straight win with a 27-6 victory over Deptford. Morley also rushed for 42 yards and a tackle for loss on defense.

Jalen Parker, Winslow. The sophomore quarterback, a key cog of the most potent offense in the area, threw for 218 yards and four touchdowns as the Eagles clinched the WJFL American League title with a 44-0 win over Cherokee on Saturday. Parker has thrown for 19 touchdowns in the last five games and has caught 28 TD passes on the season.

Zach Salsbery, Cherry Hill East. The senior quarterback threw two touchdown passes as the Cougars finished the regular season with an 8-0 record and clinched the WJFL Memorial Division championship with a 35-14 victory in Bridgeton. Salsbery has thrown two TD passes in four games this season and has 10 goals on the season.

Mekhi Simmons, Bishop Eustace. The senior became the Crusaders’ all-time leading rusher during Saturday’s loss to KIPP Academy. Simmons broke the 4,400 mark, eclipsing Mike DiMaggio’s old mark of 4,322 from 2006.

Kenny Smith, Glassboro. The senior bounced back from a rough start and made a big statement in the Bulldogs’ 20-7 win over Woodstown. He rushed 17 times for 158 yards and a touchdown and iced the game with a 45-yard pass reception as Glassboro finished the regular season undefeated and clinched the Diamond Division title.

Trey Tinges, Pitman. The senior threw on both sides of the ball, rushing for 118 yards and a touchdown on offense while producing three picks, including a pair of fumble recoveries on defense, during the Panthers’ 44-0 victory at Gateway.

Julian Turney, St. Augustine. Navy-bound Turney was a strong forward who had 31 carries for 192 yards and two touchdowns during the Hermits’ 27-21 win over Millville. Turney racked up a career total of 3,149 yards rushing, which came in a game against St. Louis. He ranks third on Augustine’s all-time list.
