Shocking nickname ‘given by Mohamed Al Fayed’ to Prince Philip after crash that killed son Dodi and Princess Diana revealed

Mohammed Al Fayed’s former security chief has revealed that Al Fayed referred to Prince Philip as ‘The Assassin’ and was obsessed with outliving the late Duke of Edinburgh.

Al Fayed’s former security chief Andre Steele also claimed the disgraced former owner of Harrods blamed ‘dark forces’ for the 1997 crash that claimed the lives of Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed.

Mr Steele, who protected Al Fayed from 2004 to 2008, said Al Fayed believed Diana and Dodi had been ‘betrayed by the royal family and eventually killed’.

This was despite an investigation finding the couple were unlawfully killed in the Paris crash, partly due to the ‘gross negligence’ of the drunk driver.

Speaking to The Sun, Mr Steele said: ‘He specifically blamed Philip and referred to him as an assassin or a murderer. He also called him “German”. But Queen II. He loved Elizabeth and spoke very highly of her.’

In what the former bodyguard described as a ‘strange obsession’, the billionaire allegedly said ‘several times that he wanted Philip to die before him’.

Al Fayed was set to get his wish when Prince Philip died before Al Fayed in 2021 (aged 99) and Al Fayed died last year at the age of 94.

Since her death, more than 250 women have contacted Harrods with claims they were sexually assaulted or raped by Al Fayed while she was working at the store.

The luxury department store said the women came forward last month following the release of a documentary that exposed years of sexual abuse allegations against the former owner of Harrods.

Mr Steele has previously claimed Al Fayed would target Harrods workers and attack women at his Surrey mansion.

Police are currently investigating 61 allegations of sexual assault against Al Fayed.

Al Fayed was the owner of London’s luxury department store Harrods from 1985 to 2010, at which time he became one of the world’s most famous billionaires.

But Al Fayed’s reputation was damaged forever after it was revealed in a BBC documentary last month that more than 20 women had accused him of rape and sexual assault.

Since then, the number of accusers has steadily increased.

The current owners of the luxury store said they were ‘horrified’ by the allegations and were investigating whether existing staff were involved.
