Child rescued from burning apartment in New Jersey was taken to hospital

A child was taken to the hospital after being trapped in a fire at a Monmouth County apartment Saturday afternoon, according to authorities.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said a fire started in a unit at the Monmouth complex in Middlebrook off Route 35 in Ocean Township around 2:16 p.m.

The prosecutor’s office said that the police who responded to the apartment found the building completely engulfed in flames.

The prosecutor’s office said a firefighter from the Wanamassa Fire Company entered the burning building and rescued the child, who was immediately taken to hospital.

Authorities confirmed the child survived, but a spokesman for the prosecutor’s office declined to provide information about the child’s age, gender and the types of injuries for which he was treated.

More than a dozen area fire departments and first responders responded to the two-alarm fire, according to the Wanamassa Fire Company. The person who posted about the incident on Facebook.

It is not yet known whether there is damage to neighboring units due to the fire.

Authorities stated that the cause of the fire was being investigated.
